Asphalt experts discuss PMA research and specifications

2021 - Calgary, AB CANADA

Our interest in polymer-modified asphalt (PMA) extends beyond research facilities and the terminal gates. To explore PMA researAsphalt road webinarch and specifications, Husky Asphalt’s Brett Lambden recently hosted a webinar with experts:

  • Dr. Martin Jasso, University of Calgary
    • “Performance of Polymer Modified Asphalts Modified with Alternative Crosslinking Systems”
  • Chris Lubbers, Kraton Corporation
    • “Aging on Storage”
  • Amma Wakefield, Asphalt Institute
    • “The State of North American Asphalt Specifications: 2021 Update”

They were joined by industry stakeholders, including construction and roadbuilding companies, asphalt suppliers, consulting engineers, and students.

“Webinars such as this are very important for our industry. We're continuously striving to better understand how our materials perform so we can look at ways of improving asphalt mix durability,” said Wakefield. “The current specifications are based on parameters that have historically provided a good indication of a mixture’s probable performance, and as we continue to learn and innovate it's important to continue having the discussions with industry that will lead to changes to specifications that continue to provide good performance.”

She added she’s looking forward to the next webinar.
